Bhagavad Gita as it is

The Bhagavad-Gita was spoken 5000 years ago on the battlefield at Kuruksetra in India. Bhagavad-Gita is part of the Vedic epic called the Maha Bharata. Maha meaning great and Bharata being the name of the emperor who wants ruled the entire planet earth. This battle was between family members who are fighting for rule of the entire planet

The battle lasted 18 days, but right before the fighting started, Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead having accepted the role of chariot driver for his dear friend and disciple Arjuna, spoke the Bhagavad Gita to alleviate the moral dilemma created by such a horrific battle. Bhagavad-Gita literally means the song of God.

The whole series of events leading up to this battle were personally orchestrated by the Lord so that he could re-introduce true religious principles into human society. Whenever and wherever society abandons religious principles and adopts a godless philosophy simply based on wanton materialism the Lord either descends himself or sends his confidential representative in order to reestablish pure religious principles based on establishing a loving relationship with him.

There have been many translations and commentaries on the ageless wisdom contained in the Bhagavad-Gita, however unless this knowledge of the science of self-realization is imparted by a bona fide representative of the Lord any attempt to understand the true meaning of the Bhagavad-Gita will be unsuccessful.

Bhagavad Gita as it is was translated with commentaries added by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, a pure unalloyed devotee of Lord Krishna coming in the authorize line of disciplic succession.
